９０年代半ば以降～００年代にかけてのミクスチャーサウンドで本格的なラップが取り入れられるブームを巻き起こすきっかけとなったバンドRAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE(レイジ・アゲインスト・ザ・マシン)やAUDIO SLAVE(オーディオ・スレイヴ)のメンバーでもあるギタリストのTom Morello(トム ・モレロ)、ベーシストのTim Commerford(ティム・コマーフォード)、ドラマーのBrad Wilk(ブラッド・ウィルク)に加え、PUBLIC ENEMY(パブリック・エネミー)のDJ LORD(DJロード)とラッパーのChuck・D(チャックD)、CYPRESS HILL(サイプレス・ヒル)のラッパーB=REAL(B=リアル)で編成されたPROPHETS OF RAGE(プロフェッツ・オブ・レイジ)が２０１６年に結成されました。

バンド名の由来はやはり、PUBLIC ENEMY(パブリック・エネミー)が１９８８年に発表したアルバム「Prophets Of Rage(プロフェッツ・オブ・レイジ)」のタイトルからのインスピレーションだったみたいですが、それともう一つの思惑として共和党全国大会に対する抗議行動を起こすためにバンド名と同タイトルの曲「Prophets Of Rage(プロフェッツ・オブ・レイジ)」をデビューシングルとして発表したのだそうです。
